Chinese influencer Xing Zhilei has gone viral for building a miniature metro station for his cats in Cat Town, a project that took him four months to complete. His YouTube video shows the fully functional system, including working doors and escalators, with cats travelling through it.
A Chinese influencer has done something that the internet is calling “the cutest thing ever.” He built a miniature metro station for his cats because of his immense love for them. It took him four months to construct this subway system for Cat Town—the cat town he spent two years creating as a home for his feline friends. In the video, he says, “It's taken me four months to build a subway system for Cat Town, but it's finally open today. Mr. Nice will bring his cat family to be the first passengers. Hello everyone, I'm Xing. Since I made the Cat House two years ago, many people have left me messages asking if I could make a subway station for the cats. This time for the subway station, it was much easier because we have a robot. Okay, okay, that was just a joke. The train with the cats is about to arrive. Let's go and welcome them. Welcome to Cat Town Station. Please give way to alighting passengers before boarding.

A popular tourist spot, Houtong is home to more than 100 feline residents.
Houtong, which directly means "monkey cave," is a village in northern Taiwan that was once famous for a local cave full of monkeys. It's unclear what has since happened to the primates, but in the 1920s when the country was under Japanese colonial rule, coal was found in Houtong. The town quickly became one of the country's largest coal providers and, soon, 900 households cropped up.But by the 1970s, coal was old news. Younger residents began moving out of the village in search of big city opportunities, and by the 1990s, the mining industry had fizzled out. The population shrunk to less than 100 people and the town's popularity died down.Until, that is, a local woman started taking stock of Houtong's cats. As a cat-lover, she organized likeminded volunteers in 2008 to care for the stray cats that had been abandoned by locals. Today, some estimates say there are as many as 200 felines roaming the town's streets, far outnumbering the village's human residents.Of course, the town itself is crawling with cats. Covering a whole spectrum of shapes and sizes, these friendly felines can be found on and beneath benches, resting on roads, up on tree branches, and roaming where they please. While the cats are adequately fed, they still help the town keep its rat population down.

Cat Town is a nonprofit cat rescue dedicated to finding homes for Oakland's most vulnerable shelter cats since 2011 and operating America's first cat cafe since 2014. Our focus is to help shy, senior, and under-socialized cats get adopted.
Senior cats often get passed by, but they have so much love to give with just a little care, support, and understanding. At Cat Town, we give these gentle creatures a soft place to land, space to adjust, confidence to trust, and the chance to relax into who they truly are.At Cat Town, we often see how cats who might struggle alone will thrive when they have the right friend. Bonded pairs offer comfort, a sense of safety, and a path forward — and are often the source of the most beautiful transformations we get to witness. This month, we’re honoring the magic of bonded pairs: how companionship can help cats build confidence and trust in the world around them. This month, we’re highlighting the power of our foster community. Cat Town’s foster program currently consists of 55 people and 66 cats. These dedicated volunteers open their home, time, and energy to help cats heal, whether they need a calm space to decompress from cage stress, daily medications, or simply patience and compassion while they learn to build trust and find their footing.
From left, Hempstead Town Supervisor John Ferretti, animal shelter acting director Ashley Behrens, and Town Clerk Kate Murray announce the expansion of the town’s trap, neuter, return program on Aug. 26 in Franklin Square.
Hempstead deploys a mobile veterinary van to support its expanded trap, neuter, release program, aiming to stabilize feral cat populations effectively. The town’s animal shelter will now accept cats for its trap, neuter, release program five days a week — up from four — and once a week, a mobile veterinary van will visit a different community to pick up cats. The town will be sending out its mobile veterinary surgical van for the first time in years. The van was purchased in 2015 and has been used at the shelter as additional space for surgeries, town spokesman Casey Sammon said in a text message.Hempstead rents traps to residents — the cost is fully refundable when the trap is returned — who then bring the trapped cats either to the shelter or to one of the sites where the mobile veterinary surgical van visits. The schedule for drop-off times at the shelter, as well as the changing locations for the van, are on the town’s website, which can be found at hempsteadny.gov.
